Central Vermont Community Radio, which operates WGDR in Plainfield and WGDH in Hardwick, will be moving out of the Creative Campus by March 1, 2027, after its lease was not renewed.
Station leadership said the decision to vacate was not theirs. “This was not our decision or our plan, but we are ready to meet the moment,” said Llu Mulvaney-Stanak, CVCR executive director.
The station noted that the closure of Goddard College had cast uncertainty on its long-term presence at the campus. A key factor in managing the transition was the earlier relocation of the WGDR broadcast antenna. “Had the antenna still been on campus, this lease decision could have forced WGDR off the air permanently. Instead, our broadcast future is secure,” Mulvaney-Stanak said.
After more than five decades at the site, CVCR described the move as both an ending and a beginning. The station plans to move to a more visible, community-centered location to strengthen partnerships and ensure long-term sustainability.
“This is an emotional moment for everyone connected to the station,” said Tom McMurdo, chair of the CVCR Board. “We are leaving a place filled with decades of history and thousands of listener connections. But this is also a wonderful opportunity for the community to shape this new chapter of CVCR.”
NEK will be looking into potential new locations for the station and how the move may affect broadcast reach in the Hardwick area.
