On June 24, Vermont State Police responded to a disturbance on West County Road in Calais. At the scene, troopers identified Clare Mills and determined she had an active warrant and was in violation of her conditions of release and a Relief from Abuse Order. She was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Berlin Barracks. Mills was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court's Washington Criminal Division on June 25 at 12:30 p.m.
The following day, June 25 at 1 p.m., troopers from the Berlin Barracks investigated a citizen dispute on Lightening Ridge Road near Tucker Road in Calais. The investigation found that Douglas Lilley intentionally used his vehicle to block traffic and impede town workers. Lilley was issued a citation to appear in Washington County Criminal Division on August 6 at 8:30 a.m. to answer a charge of disorderly conduct.
NEK will be looking into the circumstances surrounding Lilley's dispute with town workers.
