A program designed to help newcomers settle into Vermont has opened its second chapter in the Northeast Kingdom. The VT Welcome Wagon Project (VTWWP) pairs new or returning residents with volunteer hosts for informal meetings and conversations about local life.
The Northeast Kingdom Young Professionals Network (NEK YPN) took on the initiative last spring after learning about the original chapter in Chittenden County. The group secured part-time staff support through grants from the Vermont Community Foundation and the NEK Collaborative.
“We are simply thrilled that the NEK YPN has partnered with VWWP to launch a local chapter of the program,” said VWWP co-founder Krysta Sadowski. “Their commitment to connecting and serving their community combined with the energy and skills of their leadership team makes them an ideal partner for leading this program in the NEK.”
The program is open to anyone new to the region or returning, regardless of age. It aims to answer practical questions such as where to find a laundromat, restaurants, childcare, or rainy-day activities. The goal is to shorten the time it takes for newcomers to feel connected.
No membership in NEK YPN is required to use the service. Information and sign-up materials are available at vtwelcomewagon.org.
