At 11:38 AM, St. Johnsbury Police were dispatched to a report of multiple people under the influence driving around a gas pump in the Maplefield area. According to initial reports, the individuals were observed driving around the pump area and were later seen getting gasoline. Officers were initially unable to obtain a description of the vehicle, but later a red Equinox with a black front fender and Vermont temporary plates was reported to be in the truck lot portion of Maplefield. The operator was identified as a male, but no arrests have been reported at this time.

At approximately 11:54 AM, dispatch noted that a temporary Vermont registration associated with the red Equinox appeared to belong to a Subaru Crosstrek, indicating a possible registration discrepancy. Officers continued to investigate the matter.

By 12:05 PM, officers had identified the vehicle as a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox with an expired registration. The occupants, who live in Montpelier, stated they had recently purchased the vehicle. A tow was requested, and by 12:23 PM the vehicle was being removed from the site. The occupants planned to make their own arrangements to return home.

At 12:31 PM, officers made contact with the individuals associated with the vehicle and reviewed video footage of the incident. No further details have been released.
