At approximately 1:14 PM, police in Derby received a report of a male in a coral shirt who took out a.32 caliber firearm and pointed it at another male in a black baseball cap at the McDonald's on Route 5 in Derby. The suspect was reportedly walking away from the scene. According to updates from the scene, the parties are now separated about 30 feet apart. The incident appears to have stemmed from one individual attempting to punch the other, prompting the one with the firearm to draw it in self-defense. Police say the firearm was not pointed at anyone and no shots were fired. Law enforcement remains on scene. At approximately 5:38 PM, police reported obtaining security footage from the McDonald's. Later in the evening, at approximately 8:37 PM, police reported that a male has been cited for simple assault in connection with the incident, with a court date set for August 31, 2026. No further details are available at this time.
