On May 1, the ONE (Orleans and Northern Essex) Response Team posted updates from its weekly meetings aimed at supporting the community during the pandemic.
The United Church on Third Street in Newport has expanded its food shelf, with extra bags available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors are asked to ring the doorbell upon arrival.
Starting May 4, the NEKCA food shelf will be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Masks remain available through the NEK Council on Aging (1-800-642-5119 or 802-334-2190) or NEKCA (802-334-7316).
The Prevention, Intervention, Treatment and Recovery Collaborative (PITR) has emergency services postcards to distribute. To arrange pickup or dropoff, contact coordinator Sunny Naughton at [email protected]
The Hearts Project, started by Derby Elementary School and supported by local artist Ally Howell, continues to grow. Community members are placing hearts in windows to show solidarity. “I encouraged Derby Elementary School families to participate in The Hearts Project because it not only shows gratitude to those essential workers, it raises community spirit,” said Principal Stacey Urbin. “We are promoting a common strength and spirit within the community.”
