Sherry Kollmann, the new president of Vermont State University, said she backs the consolidation of the former state colleges into a single university system. Kollmann took over the role in July after a national search by the board of trustees.

Previously, she served as chancellor of New Mexico State University Global Campus. In an interview with WCAX, Kollmann described the merger of campuses in Lyndon, Johnson, Randolph, and Castleton as beneficial for students and the broader system.

“My charge moving forward is to really look at the five and create those five vibrant campuses and learning sites across our state,” Kollmann said. She also highlighted tuition incentives that allow some Vermonters to attend for free.

Kollmann will appear on the program “You Can Quote Me” on Friday evening and Sunday morning.
