Kingdom Games ended its 2020 season on October 3 with the eighth annual Fly to Pie event in West Glover. Organizers limited participation to 80 runners and bikers, requiring masks before and after the race and staggering start times over three and a half hours.
Ed Coleman, 21, of Somerville, Massachusetts, won the marathon run with a time of 3:39:27. Deborah Downs, 44, of Watertown, Massachusetts, finished at 3:47:35. Both runners self-quarantined before traveling to Vermont to compete.
In the marathon bike division, Jonathon Dodge, 41, of Colebrook, New Hampshire, finished first at 1:29:54. His wife Amber Dodge, 40, placed second at 1:46:23.
After the race, a pizza party at Parker Pie was spread over five hours, with attendees limiting their time to about an hour and social distancing outside. Jay Peak buses shuttled participants back to the starting area, six at a time, with masks on. Musicians Patti Casey and Tom MacKenzie performed.
The event raised $972.80 for The Halo Foundation, which supports cancer patients and their families.
