A heat advisory will be in effect Tuesday from 11 AM to 8 PM for much of the North Country, Upper Valley, and surrounding areas, according to forecasters.
High temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid 90s, with dew points in the 60s to low 70s. That combination will push heat index values, how hot it feels on the skin, between 98 and 105 degrees at times.
Police recommend staying hydrated, taking frequent breaks from the outdoors, seeking shade or air conditioning, and checking on vulnerable neighbors and relatives. Fans alone are not sufficient to cool down. The public is reminded to look before locking vehicles and to keep pets safe. Knowing the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and when to call 911, is also advised.
