Hardwick Academy and Hazen Union (HAHU) alumni gathered from across the country and abroad over the weekend for a series of events organized by the HAHU Alumni Association. The three-day program kicked off Thursday with a social at Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro Bend, followed by the Masters Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday at Mountain View Country Club in Greensboro, and concluded Saturday with the alumni reunion at Mike and Sally Brochu's Pavilion in Hardwick.
Steady rain accompanied much of the weekend. The Thursday social drew a couple dozen attendees despite heavy downpours. The golf tournament saw a record 120 participants, the most since the event began in 2017. In the nine-hole scramble, the foursome of Joe Mulligan, Neal Mulligan, Patrick Mulligan and Griffin Holland shot a seven-under-par 28 to claim the title, edging out two groups that tied at five-under 30.
At Saturday's reunion, roughly 130 alumni gathered for a meal from the Village Restaurant. Joyce Slayton Mitchell of the Hardwick Academy Class of 1951 was recognized as the oldest alum attending, celebrating her 75th reunion. John Gray, class of 1956, traveled from Tucson, Arizona to receive the furthest-traveled award.
The association honored Penny Libercent, Hazen Union Class of 1976, marking her 50th reunion. Libercent, a standout athlete, led the softball team to back-to-back state titles and was the school's first 1,000-point scorer in basketball, also winning consecutive state basketball championships. Former coaches Jan Howard and Jean Hackett spoke about her accomplishments.
