David Gendreau, 46, of Derby, appeared in court Monday to plead not guilty to charges stemming from an incident over the July 4 weekend. The full list of charges was not immediately available, police said.
Vermont State Troopers responded around 11:20 p.m. on July 4 to an OnStar crash report near the intersection of US-5 and Derby Pond Road. OnStar initially reported possible injuries and that shots may have been fired.
Troopers located a white 2023 GMC Sierra crashed into a tree in a nearby backyard, with significant front-end damage and ballistic damage. As they approached, a shot was fired from behind a tree. A man later identified as Gendreau was observed hiding there, armed with a handgun. He was taken into custody without injury but actively resisted officers while being secured in a patrol car, police said.
NEK will be looking into the specific charges filed and the ballistic evidence recovered from the scene.
