Community National Bank employees in Derby, Newport, and Troy have donated $1,500 to the Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging's fuel fund. The money came from the bank's 'jean money' program, where staff contribute to wear jeans on Fridays. Employees raised $750, which CNB matched.

DeAnn Meunier, Laura Bennett, and Julie Marquis delivered the donation to NEKCOA Director of Communications Mary Ellen Reis and Case Manager Randi Morse.

'We are very grateful for the long-standing support of the NEKCOA by Community National Bank,' Reis said. 'With their support, we are even closer to our goal of raising $20,000 for the 2023 NEKCOA Fuel Fund.'

NEKCOA started fundraising early this year due to rising fuel costs. So far, $16,000 has been raised toward the goal, which is double last year's target. In 2022, the fund helped 40 families, 21 in the northern NEK and 19 in the south.

Reis said the organization expects more requests this year. 'With the help of our generous community partners, we are well positioned to offer a helping hand,' she said.

NEK will follow up to see whether NEKCOA reaches its $20,000 goal and how many families receive assistance this winter.
