The Caledonia Food Co-op officially opened its doors Wednesday in downtown St. Johnsbury, offering a range of locally grown produce, artisan cheeses, and other Vermont-made products. The member-owned store, located on Railroad Street, is the result of a two-year effort that began when the co-op, first launched in 2018, purchased the building.
Co-op organizers say the store is stocked entirely with foods grown and produced in the region, with the goal of creating new markets for local farms and improving access to fresh, healthy food in the remote Northeast Kingdom. A large crowd attended Wednesday's ribbon-cutting, underscoring community support.
Membership is not required to shop; the store is open to all. Hours of operation have not yet been announced, but details are available on the co-op's website.
