The Ryegate Selectboard learned on June 8 that bringing Foley Hill Road up to town road standards would cost approximately $600,000, an expense that would fall on the road's landowners rather than the town. Board members Darryl Perkins and Nelson Elder walked the private road with a contractor working for a landowner to review culverts and conditions before arriving at the estimate.
The board appointed Frankie Buckley to fill a vacancy on the Energy Committee, noting Buckley's experience volunteering at the recycling center. Paving on Boltonville Road is complete, with shoulder work planned after the pavement firms up. Culvert work continues, and the town's shared roadside mower has arrived. The board also approved hauling the town's 2018 grader to a dealer for repairs after its front-wheel drive failed.
Nuisance beavers at Symes Pond and a culvert near Whitehill were discussed. Elder said he would meet with a state Fish & Game representative to explore solutions. A review of first-quarter 2026 recycling reports showed a $500 deficit, prompting discussion of raising bulky-item fees; the board will act at its next meeting. A resident requested a grant for trail-access parking, but the board said more information was needed and that landowners should be contacted first.
Other business included plans for a June 11 site visit related to a biomass project and NEK Broadband installing internet and phone service at the town clerk's office, highway garage, and fire station on June 17. The board entered executive session for a personnel matter involving the treasurer before adjourning.
