Four longtime Northeast Kingdom residents died in the first two weeks of July 2026, according to obituaries published in the Barton Chronicle.
Dawnita Ames, 66, of Holland, died July 11, 2026. She was born Feb. 16, 1960, and attended specialized educational programs through Derby United Church. A lifelong member of East Charleston Nazarene Church, she later lived at Maple Lane Nursing Home. Calling hours will be held July 17, 2026, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Curtis-Britch and Bouffard Funeral Home in Newport, with a graveside service July 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Mead Hill Cemetery.
James “Jim” Barrup, 75, of Brownington, died July 3, 2026. He was born Sept. 10, 1950, and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked in farming and was known for catching brook trout. No public service will be held at his request.
Diane Costanzo, 71, of Barton, died July 3, 2026, at her home. She was born May 9, 1955, in New York and later obtained a degree from Lyndon State College. She worked various jobs including at the Ethan Allen furniture mill.
Melba F. Cota, 93, of North Troy, died July 2, 2026, at her home. She was born April 22, 1933, and married Howard Cota in 1951. She was a homemaker and helped operate Cota Sanitation. She was predeceased by her husband.
