The Newport City Council has approved the municipal property tax rate for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026. The new residential rate is $3.8292 per $100 of assessed value, up from the current $3.5248, an increase of more than 30 cents.

The non-residential rate was set at $3.9713, a 35-cent increase over the current $3.6201. The municipal tax levy is expected to raise $6,157,437 toward a total budget of $9,341,645. The balance will come from non-tax revenues, including grants.
