North Country Union High School Board members, administrators, and local legislators toured the school earlier this month to assess the aging building's condition. The school board is weighing whether to repair or replace the structure.
Facilities Director Mark Dunbar, school director Emily Jankowski, and state Representative Ken Wells were among those who participated in the tour, which included a stop at the career center's welding classroom. According to school police, the welding room has a number of issues, including machinery that operates at 67 decibels, a level that may require attention.
The tour comes as the board considers long-term options for the building, which serves students from several towns in the Northeast Kingdom. A related article, "Planning For The Future, What Is In Store For North Country?" provides further details on the school's infrastructure challenges.
NEK will be looking into the specific noise-level concerns in the welding classroom and any planned remediation costs.
